Official North America site linkThe current release date is supposed to be Sept 30. If you buy the collector's edition the start date is September 22. I plan to buy the collector's edition. I have been a FF fan for a long time. This game may not appeal to the more hack-n-slash types but there will certainly be lots of fighting and cooperative play. FFXI was a very good game. It was not as detailed as EQ2 but definitely had an excellent world and environments and quite a lot of customizable and fun things to do in addition to smacking monsters around. I am looking more at the races and classes and there are definite similarities to FFXI. The races look similar with updated artwork and different names. I played primarily Taru-Taru which are called "Lalafell" in the new game. They are sorta like cute elvish-looking half-sized humanoids (not really hobbit-like) and were the magic power-houses in FFXI, but also excelled as rangers, ninjas, and thieves. The class system was very different in FFXI as it allowed dual classing and development of every class as high as you wanted with one character. Changing class was as easy as changing your clothes. That allowed us to take turns performing different roles in parties or soloing and to play at different zones/difficulty levels with the same character. I alternated as a ranger-ninja and a white-black mage (healer primarily, damage when not healing), though I also did summoning and thievery (mostly for harvesting). Of course I also did lots of crafting, and the auction system for selling was very fun.

Did some early testing, I was impressed for a bit and then lost interest..you probably will love it since we seem to be polar opposites when it comes to gaming.

I preordered the collector's edition. If there is no interest then I guess I will be out on my own out there in FF land. Hopefully the game does not suck.

Watching some of the newer videos they appear to have made vast improvements..will see tho.. The class system has totally 180'd since alpha, which is weird.. My testing account is no longer valid due to inactivity, but I just reapplied maybe ill get back in being that I tested previously...

I might be in to checking it out. Honestly haven't looked into it a lot though. Would really depend on how many might be interested. I would rather pay with people then care what game it is right now.

Well Baku had to take time off to paint his mini's and I'm in Minnesota for another week and a half before we start our drive back. Kind of hard to play when I'm spending time with family or as is the case now, no internet unless I visit my brother!

Last week was recover time. This week I have 3 friends that are graduating and leaving town for good. So been lots of dinners and hanging out with them to see them off. Next week I hopefully should be back on normal times. I think.

One of the toughest unsaid things about graduate school (and postdoc time too) is that you forge some very close friendships with people over a space of several years and then you all disperse to the four winds.

haha I wasn't planning on getting the collector's edition at first but I figured I needed to go big or go home on this one since I have 2 jobs now I can afford it for once... And now I just realized I am going to be spending almost $200 on a collectors edition for WoW:Cataclysm and FFXIV... I guess we all need to spend some money on ourselves once and a while.

was teetering since there seemed to be a bit of interest here..but seeing the latest gameplay vids for DCUO, I will be waiting to try that one out. That and the fact that FFXIV limits you to 10hrs/day gaining xp in any one particular job, dont like being told i cant powergame if i want..
