i really dont..and here is why..

A) SoE has a MUCH better track record than Cryptic/NCSoft (call me a fanboi but a vast majority of my time gaming as been with SoE Games (EQ1, EQ2, Planetside)
B) Its an action game..(third person FPS mostly)
C) The storyline has a purpose..not just pick up random missions from news paper articles and go into the same dungeon thats been puked a different color ( this part is speculation, hope, and some second third fourth hand experience, will see when it goes open beta )
D) PS3 ;)

So FFXIV is in the Open Beta stage right now and all I can really say is the graphics are amazing... just absolutely stunning! I can't say much combat system as I just got in the game.

Yea I agree with ya on that Gildor, graphics isnt what should make a game. The combat system is a bit weird to get use to but once you do its not too bad, just slower than normal. and the running and stuff seems really slow.

There needs to be a good hack and slash mmo where they just throw massive amounts of mobs at you amd you almost always barely manage to escape oop and 20% life! No more of the 1 boss 200+ people. Needs to be 200 mobs against 3 people or something!!

Geez, I made an account and whatnot a while ago but received no info concerning an open beta. Too bad my four day weekend is over now.

Well I have the game on pre-order, but will try to join the open beta tomorrow.

Yay! I am downloading the beta test installer now.

I need to check around more often - too many other things going on I guess.

The kids go back to school tomorrow and my schedule gets lock-stepped again (not a bad thing).

Hello hello, anyone home?

Is anyone playing the beta? On what world? I picked a random world "Cornelia" and made a little Taru-Taru (or whatever they call them now - Lalafell or something like that). Why the heck do they have to go and do something confusing like change all the names of the races?

I just logged onto the new vent server and there is nobody on :(

For once we agree Gildor :D

I logged onto Vent last night and told everyone what I thought. I found out two others from COR have similar feelings. The game looks pretty but is otherwise abysmal. I canceled my preorder from Amazon. I am quite disappointed. I was hoping for something better. Here is an excerpt from a post that I made today on the Square/Enix FFIV Beta group:

Yesterday I cancelled my preorder.

My personal thoughts on the game and reasons for cancelling are many. The major reason is that I just do not think that the game is ready for release yet.

So why do I think that the game is not ready for release? It has nothing to do with bugs, as I am perfectly willing and able at the beta stage to tolerate quite a few. It has nothing to do with lag or computer power. I am able to play the game without any serious lag and can run the game smoothly maxed out. To me the game just feels disconnected, disorganized, and incomplete. It fails to engage and immerse me in a coherent world in which I feel like I have some sort of control over what I do, what I carry, and what I plan to do in what order. The quests, classes, items, inventory, user interface, player interaction, NPC interaction, environments and interaction therein, etc. all need to be pulled together to form a better-designed and better-organized package. There are a lot of great ideas in there but execution and combination into a coherent game is just not there. Honestly at this point the game looks and sounds pretty but from a play perspective from the very beginning as a new character is inferior to FFXI.

Regions away from cities are not open in the sense that one can walk anywhere, jump, fall, and explore openly. There are paths connecting small open areas where one finds creatures and items for harvesting but no feeling of a massive expanse of a world to explore. An example of streams has been given previously and I will use it. I can walk across a shallow stream, and the stream appears to go to my left or right, but I cannot splash along the stream to the left and right. I can remember as a Ranger in FFXI standing on a hill watching new characters (from the PS2 release) getting chased by monsters and picking off the monsters from far away with my bow and arrows. I could run across a plain or desert and in between trees in the woods. I see no way that such a thing can happen in FFIV either pathwise or in terms of monster-character interaction. The "seamless environment" means "pathed environment" and not "open environment".

The execution of this game feels like a poor port to PC of an already poor PS3 game. The interface is abysmal. There are very few keyboard shortcuts and no customization of the UI other than macros for changing gear and whatnot (nice but not enough). There are no coherent tutorials on how to initiate and execute quests. Quests are given for places not on the map and delivery for items to NPCs with no explicit indication of where to go to find the NPC (at least for crafting quests). Items given to a player for crafting quests do not show up in the normal inventory. There is no recipe book for items visible in my menu, even after receiving a quest to make some items and executing the synthesis successfully. Accessing the inventory requires clunky key clicks with no keyboard shortcuts. Active/Passive mode flipping is difficult to do immediately. Initiating item synthesis is an extremely slow process. Going from place-to-place in the city requires that you run for a very long time. Cities feel empty of NPCs in the environment. There are PCs here and there outside of the main locations but no NPCs except at shops and guilds. I throw a rock at a squirrel and it does 1 point of damage and despite having an iron frying pan I can't hit the squirrel with it.

Anyway, you get the point. I am waiting to see if there are any improvements.
